The Parish Council are pleased to announce a week of public events to mark this significant occasion and pay tribute to all men and women who have served their country at home and abroad.

Commemorative Service & Parade

HM Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire will join dignitaries, family and parishioners in a service of thanksgiving & unveiling of the commemorative stone.



2 April

10.30am   A service will be held at the Parish Church of St John the Baptist & St Helen, Wroughton. The service will be followed by a parade to the war memorial.

11.20am    The parade will consist of local youth organisations, representatives of the Royal British Legion, Royal Artillery and associations, as well as the Wiltshire Home Guard Living History Group.

11.35am   A short dedication ceremony will take place the Wroughton War Memorial at which the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire will unveil a commemorative stone.

Weather permitting, the Wiltshire Home Guard Living History Group will also have a static display outside the Ellendune Community Centre.


Exhibits representing Wroughton’s historic association with the forces and sections on the home front, V.C., Royal Artillery and militaria.

Life in the Trenches

An educational and interactive experience for all ages comprising a replica WW1 trench and exhibition of militaria, presented by historian Steve Williams dressed as a Tommie.

‘A Reflection of Courage’

Evening of poetry, music & theatre to round off and celebrate the week’s events. Produced by Gatecrash Theatre & featuring local performers ‘Ronstars’.


7 April
